Remember that scene in The Matrix where Neo just knows kung fu? Well, imagine your REST API waking up one day and just knowing GraphQL! In this session, I’ll reveal how you can magically turn your plain old REST API into a powerful GraphQL schema without lifting a finger. It's like taking the red pill, but for your API!

This session is inspired by the challenges we faced while consulting for a client. We had a mobile React Native application and a Vue web application, both using the same REST API server. This caused numerous issues on the server side, including duplicated code and an unpredictable API.

As someone who is passionate about clean code and DRY principles, and a strong believer in GraphQL, I saw it as the perfect solution. However, the server-side code wasn't set up for an easy transition. We considered three different implementation paths, but all were too time-consuming and costly.

So, I devised a different approach that allowed us to achieve our goal with a fraction of the effort, and it was a great success.

In this session, I'll discuss the problem we faced, why it was an issue. I'll go over our goals, the options we considered, and the solution we ultimately chose. This session will be part presentation and part live demo.

By the end of the session, besides understanding the technical aspects, I hope the audience will be inspired by the kind of out-of-the-box thinking needed to achieve goals under tight constraints.
